Nora Elnahrawi, M.A.

wiss. Mitarbeiterin, Abteilung Banerjee

I am a PhD candidate in Professor Mita Banerjee’s team at the Obama Institute for Transnational American Studies at Johannes Gutenberg University. I hold a B.A. from Cairo University and an M.A. from Johannes Gutenberg University, and I am a Harvard Institute for World Literature 2025 alumna.

My research focuses on geographies of empire in Arab and Arab American diasporic texts, situating environmental elements – landscapes, ecologies, and spatial formations – as critical agents in narrating and inscribing history. Drawing on memory studies, Indigenous literature, and transnational frameworks, I examine how diasporic writing engages with place as both witness and archive.

My teaching encompasses both cultural and literary studies, with interests that align closely with my research, particularly in Arab-American literature, cultural memory, and the intersections between Transnational American Studies and world literature.
